Fontashia’s journey of mindfulness began over three years ago when she was listening to an interview
Oprah gave about energy and how-to bring awareness to difficult feelings, situations, and even
people. She decided in that moment that she wanted to study more about the practice and while
researching she also began practicing various techniques. While serving as a business education
teacher at an alternative high school in Virginia Beach, she encountered a professional development
course on mindfulness that heightened her interest even more.
Fontashia enrolled and successfully passed the Mindful Educators Essentials course offered by mindful
schools. Since then she has taught secular mindfulness techniques to staff and students within
schools and community-based programs and has attended a variety of mindfulness retreats to
enhance and build skill. She is currently enrolled in the Mindful Teacher Certification Program and set
to be fully certified in the summer of 2020.
Fontashia is an enthusiastic lifelong learner, mother of four handsome young men, wife to a retired
military service member, teacher, and loves to travel. Fontashia brings a wealth of knowledge and
