What is your definition of value?

By definition-

val·ue

/ˈvalyo͞o/

noun

1. the regard that something is held to deserve; the importance, worth, or usefulness of something.

2.a person’s principles or standards of behavior; one’s judgment of what is important in life.

As I’ve matured, I often sit and wonder who and what brings value to my life. I have this saying… “if you don’t add value to my life… then you aren’t needed…” Understand that my quote goes both ways… “if I don’t add value to your life then you shouldn’t want me in it”. In my opinion, value can be added in a variety of ways. Here are some examples:

  • Emotional value
  • Physical value
  • Mental value
  • Friendship value
  • Love
  • Monetary value
  • Support
  • Comfort
  • Trust
  • Loyalty

That’s just a few… think of your value in relationships. Do you add value to those around you? The people you care about? Do the people in your circle add value to you? There are many things that people find important in life but everyone’s values are different. We have to be okay with accepting people’s values. We have to be okay with our own value.

Value in relationships: that old saying comes to mind, “sometimes people’s seasons are up…” and in my words, “sometimes people’s value is no longer needed or no longer existent.” Know what value you bring and what value others bring in your life.

Value in the work you do: is your job useful? Is it important to you? Do you find value in it? Is it only a monetary gain? If you don’t find value in your work then you may be doing the wrong thing.

The value of money: Money is something that we desire so that we can make purchases. Yes, we need money to pay our bills… but does money add value to your life? There are people who make millions and still don’t know why it’s important to them… some get lost in the want for money but don’t understand what the value really means to them. That may have went over your head… you may of said, Fontashia we need money. I know… I know… but by what means? What’s the real value? Do you look at what others have and value what they have more than what you have?

I’m not going to hold you too long but I want you to take a moment of reflection and think about all the things… the people… the work… etc. that adds value in your life. It’s okay to release and/or hold on to those things.. people… work… etc.

Until next time my Kings and Queens…

Respectfully,

Fontashia
