Maya Angelou said it best:

“Each person deserves a day away in which no problems are confronted, no solutions searched for…”

Some people struggle with taking time to themselves. Some people feel selfish if they want to be alone… stop routine… put everything to a halt. I like to take trips alone at times. It allows me the freedom to think freely about nothing of importance… I don’t have to solve problems… I don’t have to search for solutions… I can just be…

There may be a few who find fault in this… there are others who are jealous of my own freedoms…my choices. On the other hand, there are some who applaud me… some who wish they could do the same. Guess what? We all can be free… we all are FREE! Taking time for yourself doesn’t always involve spending money or having a specific plan (says the woman who loves planning, lol). Taking time to yourself is needed in order to be a better YOU… it’s needed in order to REFRESH… it’s needed in order to LIVE… it’s needed in order to LOVE… it’s needed in order to have PEACE… I can go on of course, lol.

We shouldn’t feel bad about taking a day or two or three… Whether you are a mom, dad, wife, husband, partner, sister, brother, friend, etc. you deserve a day! I encourage each and every one of you to live life with no regrets and without being discouraged. You may be reading this saying to yourself… Fontashia, what about my kids? My spouse? Work? Household duties?

My answer to you is this… even if you are working on building something great or you already have a solid foundation… or you have small children… or maybe you never took time alone… even if people depend on you… or you feel like you don’t have the time to take… even if there are dishes piled up… or clothes to wash, it’s still okay to take a day. If you don’t allow or reserve time to just be… those things will never be completely taken care of anyway.

I mean reeeaaallly taken care of… yes, you can do the dishes but there will be more tomorrow. Yes, you can wash clothes but there will be more tomorrow. Yes, you can spend time with family but how much would you be capable of pouring into them if you haven’t taken time for yourself.

Let’s start with baby steps… take a mindful moment each day to sit with yourself. This could be for five minutes… this could be for an hour. Do something you love, dance, sing, relax and just smile…make a conscious effort to release any problems, don’t search for solutions, and when thoughts arise acknowledge that thought and go back to being mindful of the moment that you are in…cherish that moment and don’t feel bad about it. Don’t count yourself out my beautiful people… you are FREE!

Until next time my Kings & Queens,

Fontashia
